I don’t like scary movies, but I LOVE scary games. There’s something about being in a horror experience that movies can’t emulate. Adding a spooky found footage aesthetic makes everything ten times worse! Don’t Scream which is dropping October 27th in Early Access will have you — screaming in fear. So far we don’t know much about this experience, but from the trailer below, there are still some scary elements present in the teaser.
While we don’t know how Don’t Scream plays out, from the trailer it seems like it’ll use the first-person perspective. I enjoy it when horror games use this rather than the third person because the fear can be experienced head-on.
From the Steam page, the setup is quite interesting. You’re alone in the forest and need to roam around for around 18 minutes, which I assume helps you escape the horrors that await you. The spin is that you can’t make any noise and that time only moves when you move. On top of that, you’ll need a microphone.
The Unreal 5 experience tracks your voice, even the slightest hum you make. Because if you scream or let out any kind of sound, it’s game over.
To make matters even worse, the game will throw out many jump scares all with the intent to make you scream. But as the title says…Don’t Scream!
