VR MMORPG Ilysia has entered Early Access, and Team 21 Studio has a new trailer and some more on what is on the way.
After holding Tavern Talks streams with community Q&As, the team discussed the struggles of independent MMORPG development, especially in a VR project, as well as lessons learned along the way. In addition to admitting that foregoing their FreeForge flexible build system was a mistake in prior tests, they made it clear that further crowdfunding wasn’t the answer either, since it’s generally finite. Hence, Early Access, which opened up last month on Steam and Meta Quest for $14.99.
There have been several patches since, and the new trailer shows off a variety of what you can expect from the VR MMO in Early Access as the team continues development.
In the trailer, we see what exploration looks like, NPCs, traveling around town, and of course various types of combat, mobs, as well as flow of the game and different environments. From boars and rattlings roaming around in the grass to boss fights, we get a taste of what you can expect when you put on your VR headset and head into Ilysia. This includes glimpses of interacting with others, waving to a friend, fishing, gearing up, and a look at the FreeForge talent system.
Team 21 Studio has said that the decision to enter Early Access was to continue funding development of the game, so everything is still very much under development. They vowed to include the community in this process all the way, consistently looking for feedback.
The devs are also promising a more in-depth look soon at not only what’s available now, but what’s on the way. As announced via the official Ilysia Discord, a new “state of play trailer” is coming soon.
