One of the most interesting bosses in is the Sphinx, a creature who you can either beat in a typical fight or by solving their various riddles. This charming creature is completely optional, only appearing to those ready to test their wits. One wrong answer to the Sphinx can spell disaster, so you have to think carefully about this boss' questions if you want to survive.
You can find the Sphinx in a temple near the Ancient Battleground area of 's large world map. However, solving five of the Sphinx's riddles will cause the boss to change locations, making it travel to the Frontier Shrine. Both of these spots are quite hard to miss, especially if you follow markers set by the quest that starts when you meet the Sphinx.
Approaching the Sphinx without attacking it will place your character on a dais where you can choose one of five riddles to tackle. These questions may ask you to retrieve a specific item for the Sphinx or perform a certain task in. Solving each riddle will give you a unique reward, but failing to figure out any individual question will cause the Sphinx to attack.
While at the Ancient Battleground, the Sphinx will let you choose between five offered riddles that you can pick from in any order. The Riddle of Eyes starts with the Sphinx leading you to a door not far from the Ancient Battleground, where a great treasure is supposedly located. Inside this area, you'll find a chest with a Rotten Apple, but this is not the item you want to take back to the boss. Look behind the first chest to see another secret chest that contains a Sealing Phial, which is the object you can bring back to the Sphinx to solve this riddle.
