Square Enix has announced that it will be discontinuing services for the mobile title, Dragon Quest Tact. The game launched on January 27th, 2021, meaning it will have had an active life of just over two years. The reason given is that it will be too difficult to continue maintaining the game, which could mean that the income may not be enough to keep things going for the player base.
In a statement, Square Enix wrote, “Thank you for playing Dragon Quest Tact. We regret to announce we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the Dragon Quest Tact app service as of 0:00 on Feb. 29, 2024 (PST). From the Dragon Quest Tact Production Team, we apologize for the abrupt announcement but are sincerely grateful for the support we’ve received from our players. Since Dragon Quest Tact’s launch on Jan. 27, 2021, we’ve strived to provide an incredible and enjoyable gaming experience for our players every day that could exceed the day before. However, we’ve come to the conclusion that it would be difficult to continue maintaining the app experience, therefore we are ending the app service…Although we only have a short time left until service ends on Feb. 29, 2024, we hope you will continue to enjoy playing Dragon Quest Tact until the final day.”
Following the announcement, the sale of gems in the game has been suspended, though any still in player’s inventories can be spent. The sale of metal cards and passports have also been suspended, as has automatic renewal of passports. In game events that have been announced and scheduled will still be going ahead up until the game’s closure.
