Here's how challenges work and what's asked of you during Destiny 2's Season of the Wish.

Destiny 2's seasonal structure is coming to an end in Season of the Wish, but for now, there are some fresh seasonal objectives to chase over the course of several months. Like previous seasons, Season 23's challenges will cover new activities, task you with using certain weapons, and will reward you handsomely for showing off skill in certain enemy-filled environments.
As a reminder, completing every seasonal challenge will award you with a bonus--and substantial--amount of Bright Dust, that can then be used on some great cosmetic items like weapon ornaments, Exotic sparrows, and emotes.
For Season 23, it's mostly business as usual. Completing the first chapter of the new seasonal storyline will earn you some extra XP in Wishseeker I, and you can also spend some time in the Dreaming City and the EDZ completing public events, Lost Sectors, bounties, and patrols to scratch The City a Wish Built and EDZ Activities from your to-do list. Equip a bow, hand cannon, pulse rifle, or auto rifle that uses primary ammo in Vanguard activities--Strikes, PvP, and Gambit--and you'll quickly complete Focused Intention as well. If you're on the premium rewards track of the season pass you'll have the new Dragon's Breath rocket launcher unlocked instantly, so have fun playing with that and Dragon's Defender will be another challenge that you quickly complete.
Seasonal Bonuses are also back in Season 23, and you can earn some great perks as you progress through missions and activities.
