, which recently premiered in theaters, has set the on fire this summer. The crossover film did so by bringing together two iconic superheroes and introducing them to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the process, it has firmly put the franchise back on track and pushed it to a huge milestone.
Courtesy of Deadpool & Wolverine, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become the first film franchise to make $30 billion at the global box office. Out of the 34 MCU movies that have come out so far, 11 have gone on to make over a billion dollars at the global box office. Two of them (Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame) even crossed the two-billion-dollar mark at the box office.
Given how the audience is responding to Deadpool & Wolverine, the superhero feature film is well on its way to becoming another successful release for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU experienced disappointing box-office returns with some of its recent entries, including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels. Deadpool & Wolverine debuted in the U.S. theaters on Friday, July 26. The film made $211 million in North America and $233.1 million overseas, reaching a total of $444.1 million at the global box office. It added another $55.2 million to the global tally by the end of Monday. The film was predicted to cross $500 million globally on Tuesday. (via Deadline)
This recent accomplishment secures the MCU’s position as the most successful film franchise of all time. Moreover, the Spider-Man franchise (including the SSU, MCU, and all other Spider-Man movies) is second on that list, having made $10.6 billion globally, as of late July 2024. The Star Wars franchise is third behind the MCU and Spider-Man, accumulating $10.3 billion collectively at the box office.
