Dealing with one’s mental health can be a very tricky thing. There’s very little one can do to directly confront it, having instead to do their best to shift their thoughts and, hopefully, achieve a more positive outlook. What if we could take our mental struggles head-on though? It’d likely be something Silent Hill-esque, but maybe not. Maybe it would be like indie developer Frozen Line’s Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow instead.
In Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow follows a young boy named Griffin and his teddy bear partner Birly as they try to sort out his older self’s internal struggles and find inner peace. Sorting it all out will take the pair through a series of mental landscapes ranging from dank castles and caves to fantastical forests and plains. Getting through them will require Griffin to channel his inner Psychonauts though, since all are filled with enemies to defeat and puzzles to solve. Birly isn’t just going to be for show either; his small size makes him perfect for getting hard-to-reach items or squeezing into tight spaces.
Those interested in Daydream: Forgotten Sorrow don’t actually have to wait until June 14 to give it a try; they can go to Steam right now and download Daydream: Prologue, which allows players to check out the game’s entire first chapter. PlayStation, Xbox and Switch players will get their chance too, but they’ll have to wait until a little later in the year.
