The console release of Company of Heroes 3 will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 30th May 2023, Sega and Relic Entertainment have announced.
Following on from the PC release in February, Company of Heroes 3 has been thoroughly revised to be playable on consoles for the first time. There’s a custom UI, full controller support, and the Full Tactical Pause, which lets you halt the game in its tracks to take time to coordinate the action at your own pace.
The latest entry in this WW2 real-time strategy series takes the battle to the Mediterranean theatre of war offering several different campaigns to play as well as four distinct factions to enlist in, and giving players broader control over the war effort with a dynamic campaign map. This also means plenty of new vehicles and units to deploy, opening up a wealth of combat options.
It will be fascinating to see how it makes the jump over to console, but we can already look at reviews and opinions of the PC release to see what to expect. The game sits at a health 80/100 mark on Metacritic, though within that are some outlets like PC Gamer criticising a lack of AI aggressiveness, while others suggest it’s not a particularly innovative entry. Then again, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
At the end of March, the first big update to Company of Heroes 3 – Operation Sapphire Jackal – made some improvements, such as adding daily and weekly challenges in both multiplayer and co-op modes, alongside the expected slew of bug fixes and tweaks.
