C-Smash VRS is coming to Quest 2, Quest 3 and PICO 4 headsets on 4th April 2024, smashing through the blocks of PlayStation VR 2 exclusivity to reach as much broader VR gaming audience.
C-Smash VRS first launched on PlayStation VR 2 in June last year, a revival of the Japan exclusive Dreamcast and arcade game Cosmic Smash from the early 2000s, morphed into a compelling block-busting VR racket sports game by producer-publisher RapidEyeMovers and developer Wolf & Wood.
With some pretty substantial updates through the second half of last year, whe Quest and Pico release will be able to roll in all of the updates and new modes that have come to the game on PSVR 2 since its launch. This includes a new endless mode, co-op play, AI opponents, more levels, more music and more.
Thanks to the minimalist art style, it should shift seamlessly to the two standalone VR platforms, and come with the added freedom of not being cabled up to a console to free your movements even further.
Upon its release for Quest and Pico, C-Smash VRS will feature cross-platform global leaderboard, but cross-platform head-to-head and co-op multiplayer will not be available until a future update. That’s a bit of a shame, but considering how the game has been supported so far, it’s good to see that these kinds of meaningful updates will continue.
C-Smash VRS was right in the running for our Best Virtual Reality Game award in last year’s GOTYs. In our review, I said, “With the simplicity of squash and block smashing at its core, C-Smash VRS is a virtual racket sport delight. The bat and ball physics are tricky to master, but stick to the easier Zen mode, or play with a friend in multiplayer and co-op, and there’s plenty of joy to be had here.”
