There’s a new and interesting feature coming to the next season of Overwatch 2 Season 7, which is Group Respawn for non-competitive modes. Blizzard is implementing this with the aim of having teammates group up faster and easier. But how exactly does Group Respawn work? Let me explain more about this new feature as I give you details from the patch notes.
If you’re playing any mode besides Competitive mode in Overwatch 2, starting October 10, you’ll experience Group Respawn. This feature essentially means that heroes who die within a few seconds of each other will respawn together. For better details, here are the exact patch notes:
Typically, some players will either leave spawn by themselves, or have to wait for their teammates to respawn. Both situations can be frustrating, so I believe Group Respawn for non-competitive modes sounds like a good idea. The developer comments said this on why they implemented this feature:
We think that team fights are some of the most enjoyable moments in our game, but we’ve all been in matches where team cohesion–or lack thereof–makes these moments a rarity. These matches often turn into stomps for the team that can’t group up, and preventing stomps is a high priority for us.
As someone who plays Overwatch 2 often, especially Unranked mode, I often get frustrated when my teammates don’t group up before facing the enemy team. This typically results in us dying off one-by-one, so hopefully Group Respawn will help teams re-enter the fight together. Hopefully once we get into the game and see how this works, it’ll work to our benefit.
