We already knew that Blasphemous 2 would launch sometime this year. And today, we got a firm release date for the game, which is due this summer.
As part of IGN's Summer of Gaming announcements, we learned that the 2D side-scrolling Metroidvania game will arrive on PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S on August 24. Set after the events of the Wounds of Eventide DLC, Blasphemous 2 will include the trademark pixel-based art and the return of The Penitent One.
Originally released in 2020, Blasphemous is a Metroidvania action-adventure with a distinctive art style and challenging combat. Its sequel was originally announced nearly two years ago at Gamescom 2021.
As expected in a sequel, Blasphemous 2 will introduce new weapons offering new moves. And more interestingly, the sequel will have a bigger focus on customization, allowing players to customize their skillset and cater it based on their preferred playstyle.
In our review of the original Blasphemous, which we awarded a 7, we said, "Blasphemous is an eery Metroidvania with gorgeous animations and combat that’s just a tad too one-dimensional."
