The iconic dhampir Blade might be making his way back to the screen sooner than later as the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot will reportedly start filming this July. Wesley Snipes first brought Marvel's vampire hunter to the screen with the late '90s film trilogy, which earned mixed reviews from critics across all three films. Despite the reviews, the Blade trilogy garnered a cult following and were box office hits, helping establish Marvel's success on the big screen.
Mahershala Ali, who previously made his MCU debut with Luke Cage season 1 as the secondary antagonist Cottonmouth, is set to take over the role of Blade for the film reboot, with his casting having been announced at 2019's San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel Studios shortly thereafter tapped Watchmen alum Stacy Amma Osei-Kuffour to pen the script, making her the first Black woman to write a Marvel film, and landed Mogul Mowgli's Bassam Tariq to direct. With the main players now in place for the project, it looks like the Blade MCU reboot is finally about to take off.
