Larian Studios will release Baldur’s Gate III for Xbox Series in 2023, the developer confirmed.
The Xbox Series version will feature split-screen cooperative play when played on Xbox Series X, but not when played on Xbox Series S. Cross-save progression between Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Steam will also be available.
Larian Studios previously said it planned on bringing Baldur’s Gate III to Xbox Series, but was held back by technical issues—particularly getting split-screen cooperative play to run on Xbox Series S, as Microsoft requires feature parity for Xbox Series games. In other words, a game cannot lack a feature on Xbox Series S that is available on Xbox Series X.
“Super happy to confirm that after meeting [Microsoft Gaming boss Phil Spencer] yesterday, we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate III to Xbox players this year still, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time,” Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke said in a tweet.
He continued, “All improvements will be there, with split-screen co-op on Series X. Series S will not feature split-screen co-op, but will also include cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series.”
Baldur’s Gate III launched for PC and Mac via Steam and GOG on August 3, and is due out for PlayStation 5 on September 6.
