Baldur’s Gates 3 has been a massive success on PC and it looks like the PlayStation 5 version will also be a big hit, but what about Xbox players? The good news is that the game is now confirmed for Series X|S, but with one caveat. The Series S version will not have split screen but will include cross-save with Steam.
The breakthrough has come from Larian’s Swen Vincke who spoke to Xbox’s Phil Spencer at Gamescom and managed to thrash out the deal. If you were not aware, Microsoft have what was up until now a very hard rule that the only difference between a Series X and Series S game would be the resolution, developers were not allowed to cut features from the lower spec console.
Super happy to confirm that after meeting @XboxP3 yesterday, we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year still, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time.

The news of an Xbox version was hinted at by just yesterday Phil Spencer in an interview with Eurogamer.
“On S, specifically, we designed the box with similarities to X, and clear places where we’re targeting a different performance. And we’re taking feedback from devs including Larian, I met with them today to talk about it and I’m confident we’re going to find a good solution and we’re going to learn,” he said.
The PC version of the title is currently the highest rated game of 2023 on Metacritic and the 34th highest rated game of all time.
