We all joked about the Baldur's Gate 3 cast being too horny, and as it happens, we were dead right. Speaking to our features editor Eric Switzer at PAX West, game director Swen Vincke confirms that romances were bugged at launch. This means characters were flinging themselves at the player way faster than they were supposed to, particularly everyone's favourite down-bad wizard, Gale.
When asked about how horny Baldur's Gate 3 was at launch, Vincke is quick to admit that "it was a bug." He says that approval thresholds were set too low, making everyone come across far too horny. Vincke also adds that some characters have been fixed, but others are still being tweaked to avoid coming on too strong.

"So... it was a bug," says Vincke, discussing the state of romances at launch. "The approval thresholds were too low when we shipped. That's why they were so horny in the beginning. It wasn't supposed to be that way. We've fixed it since, at least for some of them. We're still fixing a few of them."
In news that won't surprise anyone who has so much as breathed in Gale's general direction, it turns out he's the most affected by the bug.
"It wasn't intended," adds Vincke. "Especially Gale. [He] wasn't supposed to be like, instantly there."
Of course, the fan response hasn't been all that bad. More shagging seems to have pleased many players, but that isn't enough to dissuade Larian from patching the bug.
"There were a lot of people that enjoyed it. But it was too fast," Vincke says. "It was supposed to simulate how real relationships are." He also says that acting this way in real life would be "problematic". Which is very, very true.
