Plenty of memorable designs have appeared in the games over the years, but there's also a wide variety of interesting concepts that never made it into an actual release. Cut Pokémon designs cover a wide range of territory, from ideas that share DNA with finalized iterations to creatures unlike any that ultimately appeared in the franchise. Although some had valid reasons to stay on the cutting room floor, others are cool enough to make their exclusion regrettable.
Many cut Pokémon with established designs come from the earliest generations of the games, which happen to feature some documentation of a variety of dropped concepts. The Game Boy and Game Boy Color fundamentally limited the amount that could be packed into an entry, so although some programming tricks from Satoru Iwata expanded the amount that Generation 2 could feature, a weeding-out process was still required. To this day, there are many reasons why a Pokémon might not make it into a game, from a lack of originality to possibly even being offensive on religious or cultural grounds.

Sharks haven't gotten too much love in the series, with the only notable creature to directly resemble a shark being Sharpedo. In terms of cut designs, however, they are featured a little more heavily. One solid choice that didn't make it was Jaggu, which looks like it could deal some real damage with its spear-like snout. Jaggu and many other cut Pokémon from the early games have been documented by Dr. Lava and illustrated by RacieBeep, helping to bring these original designs back to life and keep them in the public eye.
