In a previous Developer Livestream, the team discussed the topic of Gems, and how they took up so much inventory space. With each quality of Gem taking up its own inventory slot, players would quickly lose out on a very large portion of Stash space. In order to somewhat remedy this, players have been forced to condense all of their Gems to the higher qualities in order to save space, which makes socketing gear for lower-level characters more tedious. Even still, Stash space is a precious thing in every ARPG.
Season 2 Developer Livestream Summary Everything We Know About Vampiric Powers
However, there is good news for all of the hoarders out there! The first Developer Livestream for Season 2 has revealed that Gems have been entirely reworked:
Now Gems will no longer drop at all! Instead, Gem Shards will drop that will be placed into the materials tab when picked up. These shards can then be taken to the Jeweler to craft full Gems. This will also make looting less cumbersome since players won't have to keep throwing Gems out of their inventory in order to make more room.
There will be Gem Shards for each Gem type that can be looted, and when crafting a Gem it can be salvaged back into Gem Shards! With this change, players will be able to craft Gems only when needed, and Gems will no longer clutter the Stash.
Truly, it was the darkest of times.
