Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon is sure to have solid combat and gameplay, it is a FromSoftware title after all, but what about variety? Until now, most of the footage we’ve seen has taken place in somewhat similar-looking industrial-style environments, raising the prospect that Armored Core VI may be fun, but a bit repetitive overall. Thankfully, it seems that won’t be the case, as the latest gameplay footage released by FromSoftware and Bandai Namco shows off an impressively varied game.
Over the course of 12 minutes of footage, we see a wide array of different maps, ranging from pristine mountains, to frozen tundra, dusty deserts, and, of course, more of those industrial backdrops. We also see lots of varied gameplay – in addition to combat against standard enemies, we see protagonist “621” take on a massive mechanical walker (think an AT-AT from Star Wars, except 10x bigger), other Armored Core mechs, and aggressive bosses. All this is vividly rendered, with crisp details and impressive environmental effects, as it seems any concerns AC6 won’t deliver on a technical level are misplaced. You can check out the footage for yourself, below.
Wccftech’s Kai Powell recently had a chance to go hands-on with Armored Core VI, tackling the game’s entire first chapter, consisting of 11 missions. Definitely check out his full preview – meanwhile, here’s just a snippet about the game’s combat…
“The combat in Fires of Rubicon is just as fast-paced as the trailers have teased so far. Players have a full 360 of movement to approach combat and some fights seem better suited for an aerial approach (a truck-based enemy unit was all but impervious to attacks from straight ahead with its weak points located on the rear heat vents).
