Blizzard finally responds to Overwatch 2s Abysmal Steam Rating
pcinvasion.comEven the most avid fan can’t deny that Overwatch 2 is in an odd place right now. Whether you’re happy with the gameplay or not, optics surrounding the title are at an all-time low. At the time of writing, Overwatch 2 is the lowest-rated game on Steam, an unthinkable achievement for such a well-known franchise. It appears that the higher-ups at Blizzard have noticed, and their response? Well, it’s something.
On 18 August 2023, Aaron Keller, the Director of Overwatch 2, posted an article on the official website titled “Director’s Take – Looking Beyond Overwatch 2: Invasion”
The article covers multiple topics, including the new Support hero, Illari, and the Flashpoint Game Mode. Keller goes on to congratulate players who managed to beat the new story content on the hardest difficulty noting, “Only 1.6% of attempts successfully completed Gothenburg on Legendary, and 0.7% of attempts on Toronto were successful!”
Keller addresses the Steam Review situation toward the end of the article, saying, “Many of the reviews on Steam mention the cancellation of the much larger component of PvE that was announced in 2019 as one of their primary reasons for dissatisfaction with the game. I get that. That announcement was about an ambitious project that we ultimately couldn’t deliver.”
The article continues with “If we can’t turn back the clock, then what can we do?” and lists several upcoming features to Overwatch 2.
This response is unlikely to change anything for players who have lost confidence in Blizzard and Overwatch. There is no apology, and it doesn’t help that the current short PvE offering has a $15 entry fee. Referring to the Steam rating as “Review Bombing” doesn’t help either, as it implies that those leaving reviews aren’t
