Overwatch 2 has had a fairly rough go of it since launch, but since coming to Steam, Blizzard has been struggling with a fresh PR disaster. Thanks to Steam's detailed, egalitarian analytics, it became the platform's "Worst Game of All Time", which is a pretty tough moniker to spin into a positive.
Game director Aaron Keller penned some thoughts following the launch of Overwatch 2's Invasion update last week, which saw players finally given an outlet through which they could vent their spleens. With years of bubbling Overwatch resentment finally given a voice thanks to Steam reviews, Keller notes that much of the dissatisfaction comes from the cancellation of planned PvE elements in 2019 and has less to do with Invasion itself. He notes that «although being review-bombed isn't a fun experience», the future is a bright one, and states:
«Many of the reviews on Steam mention the cancellation of the much larger component of PvE that was announced in 2019 as one of their primary reasons for dissatisfaction with the game. I get that. That announcement was about an ambitious project that we ultimately couldn't deliver. If we can’t turn back the clock, then what can we do? We can keep adding to and improving Overwatch 2. That is how we move forward. This means more maps, heroes, game modes, missions, stories, events, cool cosmetics, and features — an ever-expanding, evolving, and improving game. This is the future of Overwatch»
