The recently released AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 3D V-Cache CPU has shown vastly better performance in Linux compared to Windows 11 in benchmarks published by Phoronix.
Michael Larabel of Phoronix put the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 3D V-Cache CPU into his library of open-source benchmarks to see how the new processor fares in Linux Ubuntu 23.04. This verifies the benefits of the new processor in Linux compared to Microsoft Windows environments.
Larabel completed eighty tests, and overall, the benefits of Linux Ubuntu 23.04 compared to Microsoft Windows 11 Pro was an improvement of 7% in favor of the open-source platform. AMD has shown over the last year a significant focus on both closed- and open-source platforms so that all users, no matter which environment they choose to utilize, would benefit from AMD's processor family.
The Linux operating system outperformed Windows in 72% of the eighty benchmarks tested. Keep in mind that Larabel ensures that both test systems are completely updated with the latest drivers so that there is a common ground that both systems can meet so that the results can be as fair as possible and representative of each system.
The Windows 11 Pro operating system did see some wins against Linux Ubuntu 23.04, such as in Blender 3.5 BMW27, Blender 3.5 Barbershop, and Selenium PSPDFKit WASM benchmarks. The three tests produced 22%, 17.3%, and 30% increases in performance for Windows. However, in the remaining tests, Linux Ubuntu 23.04 shined above the opposition in almost all tests involved.
In previous benchmarks, Larabel has shown that the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X gained a 6% lead against Microsoft Windows 11 Pro in Linux showing AMD's continuing open-source involvement remaining as strong as its closed-source
