Nearly 330 developers are working on the next mainline The Witcher game, which is codenamed Polaris, CD Projekt has confirmed.
The company provided an update on the size of its development teams engaged on current projects as part of its quarterly financial results on Tuesday.
“The [Polaris] team is steadily growing, having reached almost 330 developers at the end of last month,” CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciński said during the company’s third quarter earnings conference on Tuesday. “It’s expected to grow to over 400 by mid-next year.”
That means the Polaris team is now CD Projekt’s biggest development team, having overtaken Cyberpunk’s, which numbered about 300 at the end of July.
As of the end of October, 220 developers were working on Cyberpunk 2027 projects, including the base game, its Phantom Liberty expansion, and the upcoming Ultimate Edition.
Kiciński said almost 700 developers were employed across CD Projekt Red and The Molasses Flood, the American studio behind Flame in the Flood, which was acquired in 2021 and is currently working on a Witcher spin-off game codenamed Project Sirius.
CD Projekt also provided a sales update on Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty today.
Having sold three million copies in the first week following its PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC release on September 26, the company claimed that the game’s first and only expansion has cleared 4.3 million sales in its first two months.
