When you think of cult classic, there aren't many out there that fit the bill more than Alice: Madness Returns by American McGee. It launched all the way back in 2011 and was the sequel to American McGee's Alice which launched over a decade earlier in 2000. Plans for a third game in the series titled Alice: Asylum have been in the works for quite some time, but nothing signifcant has really materialized since the game was announced.
Most of that is down to funding. American McGee wanted Alice: Asylum to be crowdfunded this time around, but we can assume that he's been fairly unsuccessful for a while considering we've seen barley anything from him since. He's still soldiering on to get the game made at some point though, and has even called on EA to help make the title in a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel (thanks Rock, Paper, Shotgun).

The video is primarily being used to share the news that Alice: Asylum's design bible is going to be made free to download, which features a bunch of concept art, game design notes, and other interesting little tidbits about development. However, towards the end of the video, the screen goes black before a red EA logo slowly fades in. Shortly after, the words "Let's make impossible things happen together" fade in as well, which appears to be a direct call to EA to help fund Alice: Asylum like it did with Madness Returns back in 2011.
We'll have to wait and see whether this actually amounts to anything, although it's likely EA has left the series behind at this point. While it would be nice to see, the publisher's days of weird and experimental titles are pretty much over. Still, stranger things have happened in the gaming
