A new Turok game is in development, it’s been confirmed.
Turok Origins is being handled by Saber Interactive, and will be played from a third-person perspective rather than the series’ trademark first-person viewpoint.
“Play as the legendary Turok warriors to face off against ferocious dinosaurs and a terrifying alien threat that seeks to destroy all human life in the galaxy,” the game’s description reads.
“Unleash devastating attacks on your enemies with weapons and abilities, and harness fallen enemies’ DNA to upgrade your arsenal. Embark on a high-stakes adventure — solo or with friends — to unravel mysteries that hold the key to saving humanity.”
The original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, based on the comic book character of the same name, was released on Nintendo 64 and PC in 1997.
It was followed by three N64 sequels – Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, Turok: Rage Wars and Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, before publisher Acclaim moved to the next generation and released Turok: Evolution on PS2, Xbox and GameCube.
A reboot, simply titled Turok, was released by Disney Interactive Studios in 2008. This has been the last new Turok game released to date, meaning fans will have been waiting at least 17 years by the time the next game is out.
Those fans have been partially sated in recent years by Nightdive Studios, wich released remasters of Turok, Turok 2 and Turok 3 on modern consoles and PC in 2015, 2017 and 2023 respectively.
