Adding wrapping paper to your presents doesn't really change anything gameplay-wise, but it does help with roleplay, and can be used to add a little excitement to minigames or just gifting in general.
If you have friends over to play some minigames, having wrapped presents as prizes adds a little mystery and excitement. Or, for the festive season, you could even send wrapped gifts in the mail each day of December to create a mailed advent calendar. For those who've ever used Nookazon, you might have also seen wrapped presents as mystery bags, where players don't know what they've purchased from the seller until they've opened each one.
It couldn't be simpler to purchase wrapping paper in. All you need to do is head to Nook's Cranny and check the cabinet found towards the right of the shop. Scroll through the wares Timmy and Tommy have for sale that day until you come across the wrapping paper bundles. Each one should cost 160 Bells, and will wrap one gift, or they can be bought in bulk volumes of five. The colors available on any given day are random, so if you don't see the color you're hoping for, check back another day.

Once you've purchased your wrapping paper, make sure you have the item you want to gift in your inventory. Highlight the wrapping paper, select «wrap,» and then select the gift. The present will then be wrapped and can be passed on your friends, villagers, and can also be mailed. Make sure to not unwrap your present though — you'll have to repurchase the paper and wrap it up again if you do!
