It is no surprise that the franchise has been struggling to resonate with fans as of late, but the developers are holding the largest playtest the franchise has seen to date for to hopefully bring back the player base. The launch of was disastrous for both EA and Dice, as not only was the marketing very lackluster, but fans were less than thrilled with the story being historically inaccurate.
According to Insider Gaming, playtests are gearing up to begin and will include a free-to-play battle royale mode. The goal for the developers is to test the title as thoroughly as possible and get player feedback to avoid yet another catastrophic launch.
Not only was a huge miss for EA and DICE, but had its fair share of issues at launch.Filled with bugs, launching errors, and players being kicked back into the lobby for seemingly no reason, the title ended up forcing several fans of the franchise to turn their backs on the games entirely. EA had claimed that they were going to ensure that this «unacceptable» launch never happened again, but sadly that ended up not being the case.
A large-scale playtest is currently happening for Battlefield 6, in attempts to ensure a smoother launch for the next game than previous titles.
Four studios are said to be working on currently, according to Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming, including DICE, Motive, Criterion, and Ripple Effect. The article also notes that there will be more playtests this time around to ensure that expectations are met well before the game goes live.
There has been little information released on the state of its release date, or gameplay features. Though the release date is set for some time in 2025, there is very little known about what to expect from the title at the time of writing.
