BAFTA nominee Danielle Deadwyler (Till, The Piano Lesson) has been tapped for a leading role in the upcoming Steve Carell HBO comedy series, which hails from veteran TV producers Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso) and Matt Tarses (Scrubs).
Deadwyler is set to portray the role of the head of the English Department at the liberal arts college, who’s also a professor of poetry and a published writer. She will have an instant rapport with Carell’s character.
“The show is a single-camera comedy set on a college campus, centering on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter,” reads the logline.
The untitled Steve Carell comedy is executive produced by veteran TV producers Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso) and Matt Tarses (Scrubs), who are also writing the first episode. Besides Carell and Deadwyler, the cast will also include Charly Clive (The Lazarus Project) and Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso). In addition to leading the cast, Carell is also executive producing alongside Liza Katzer and Jeff Ingold. The series is a production by Warner Bros. Television.
This marks Carell’s latest major TV project after recently signing on to star opposite Tina Fey in the Netflix series The Four Seasons. Following his iconic performance as Michael Scott in The Office, Carell was able to show off his skills in the drama genre, thanks to his appearances on The Morning Show and The Patient. Prior to his upcoming HBO comedy, he previously headlined Netflix’s short-lived workplace comedy Space Force.
