More details have been revealed about ’s potential casting in the DCU Sgt. Rock movie.
In November 2024, it was reported that Daniel Craig was likely to star in a Sgt. Rock DCU movie directed by Luca Guadagnino. This would have reunited Craig and Guadagnino after 2024’s Queer.
On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, however, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Craig had dropped out of the film. The reason for his departure isn’t immediately clear at this time, though the outlet mentioned that Queer’s failure at the box office and during awards season, along with scheduling issues with his wife, may have had something to do with it.
As Warner Bros. is now searching for a replacement, The Hollywood Reporter’s article mentioned that The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White is “one name making the rounds.” No further details were provided at that time.
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, White “currently holds the offer for Sgt. Rock.” He’s supposed to finish filming the next season of The Bear in early March, while Sgt. Rock is eyeing a summer 2025 production window. This means means the project could potentially fit into his schedule.
However, his casting doesn’t seem to be a done deal for two reasons. Firstly, White is attached to star in a Netflix series titled Enigma Variations. That project was announced in January 2025 and it’s currently unclear when the production window is. One of Sneider’s sources said that Enigma Variations “is in early development and unlikely to stand in the way of Sgt. Rock,” while another said “he was planning to spend his summer shooting” the series.
Secondly, White is reportedly “asking for too much money” to star in Sgt. Rock, which is aiming to be a “mid-budget movie that isn’t supposed to be a terribly long shoot.” How much White is asking for is unclear at this time.
The script for the Sgt. Rock movie is written by Justin Kuritzkes, who also wrote Challengers and Queer. No other casting or plot information is available at this time.
