Lionsgate has announced the official release date for the upcoming action thriller, starring Emmy winner Kerry Washington and Golden Globe nominee Omar Sy. The film hails from The A-Team director Joe Carnahan.
“In the film, Kyrah (Washington) and Isaac (Sy) were once the leaders of a multinational special forces group called Shadow Force,” reads the official synopsis. “They broke the rules by falling in love, and in order to protect their son, they go underground. With a large bounty on their heads, and the vengeful Shadow Force hot on their trail, one family’s fight becomes all-out war.”
Shadow Force is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 2, 2025, pitting it directly against Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*. The film will also be debuting in the same month as other high-profile movies like Final Destination: Bloodlines, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Lilo & Stitch, Bring Her Back, and Karate Kid: Legends.
The film is directed by Joe Carnahan, who co-wrote the screenplay with Leon Chills. Joining Washington and Sy are Mark Strong, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Yoson An, Natalia Reyes, Sala Baker, and more. When the project was first announced, it was being likened to the box office hit Mr. & Mrs. Smith, describing it as a fresh take on the 2005 action-comedy. In addition to leading the cast, Washington is also producing alongside Stephen “Dr.” Love and Sterling K. Brown. The latter was originally cast for the lead role, but later on decided to just stay on as a producer.
