The next game from Overcooked developer Ghost Town Games has been revealed, and it’s being published by Hello Games.
Stage Fright is a two-player co-op game with a horror theme, which is described as “Luigi’s Mansion meets Overcooked with a really charming story”.
According to Hello Games, the game is “packed with co-op moments” which it says combine Overcooked-style chaotic moments with escape room principles.
Explaining that Stage Fright will have an emotional storyline, Hello Games says: “Everyone loved characters like the Onion King in Overcooked, but this is much more touching, with a real heart.”
Whereas Overcooked could be played by up to four players, Stage Fright will be a strictly two-player game.
Hello Games explains that Ghost Town’s data revealed that around 90% of Overcooked sessions were played with two players, which is why the studio decided to focus mainly on a two-player experience for this new game.
Much like Overcooked, the game is also being developed with all skill levels in mind, meaning expert players should be able to play alongside complete beginners.
Explaining why it got involved in publishing the game, Hello Games says: “Really, it’s because we’ve always been close friends.
“Phil and Oli came to visit us for advice with the very earliest demo of Overcooked about ten years ago. We have such fond memories of the four founders of Hello playing that Overcooked demo, screaming at each other about onions – it was instantly obvious this was something special.
It added: “Hello Games has a bunch of experience we can lend behind the scenes, support we can give, but if we’re honest it really appeals to us to have fun working with a bunch of creative people we just love spending time with.
“When we played an early version of Stage Fright we got the same buzz as we had with Overcooked all those years ago, it’s just something we wanted to be involved in.”
