3 or 4 ‘pretty big’ announcements are planned for Summer Game Fest live show
Summer Game Fest host and producer Geoff Keighley has teased plans for several high-profile announcements at this year’s live kick-off show.
Billing itself as the “global fan celebration of what’s next in video games”, Summer Game Fest will return for its fourth year with a live event on June 8 at 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 8pm BST.
Promising world premieres, live gameplay demos and announcements, the show will take place in front of a live audience at the YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California.
“As I always say with these shows, one or two games kind of makes the entire difference,” Keighley said in an interview for Epic Games‘ website. “As the producer, it’s challenging because sometimes you have those games, sometimes you don’t, sometimes you think you have them and they drop out or change.”
While plans can always change, he said there were currently three or four things that he thinks are going to be “pretty big for this audience.”
Keighley recently said Summer Game Fest 2023 will feature content from over 40 publishers including PlayStation and Xbox.
Titles featured at last year’s Summer Game Fest showcase included Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Street Fighter 6, The Callisto Protocol, Gotham Knights and The Last of Us Part 1.
On the format of this year’s live show, Keighley added: “Whereas The Game Awards is very much straight trailer, trailer, trailer, announcement, announcement, announcement, I think Summer Game Fest has a chance to talk to the developers and showcase games and give a little bit more context around games. We’re not giving out awards in the show. It really is just kind of a showcase of games.”
