Many had expected the first PS5 gameplay of Mortal Kombat 1 to debut during this week’s PS Showcase, as Sony is a big player in the fighting game community and has been a long-running partner on Mortal Kombat 11. But no – the world gameplay premiere will instead air during Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest broadcast on 8th June, where it’ll be presented by series creator Ed Boon.
It’s possible PlayStation may still show some kind of Mortal Kombat 1 cinematic trailer during its event later this week, but seeing as the game has already received one of those, it seems unlikely. This also suggests Sony may not have marketing rights to the release, which was expected after it snapped up the likes of Street Fighter 6.
Either way, this gameplay reveal is likely to be one of the highlights of Summer Game Fest, as new Mortal Kombat games always look incredible. We’re excited to get our first glimpse in a little over two weeks’ time.
