It does not matter how complex or simple your password is; Google thinks that there is a better way to actually log in. Passkeys are the way to the future, and the search engine giant has decided to make it a much wider solution.
Google has announced that passkeys are now going to be the default option to access your personal Google Accounts. The next time you sign into your account, you will be shown a prompt where you will be asked to create and use a passkey. Your account settings will have the option to complete the skip password when possible. However, if you don't want passkeys, you can still opt out of this feature, but we would suggest not doing so as they are much more secure.
Google has talked about how people have been using passkeys on almost all the platforms, and the blog even mentions how even WhatsApp is working on bringing this feature.
For those who don't know, passkeys work on a really simple principle. They use your fingerprint, face scan, or device PIN to unlock the phone device or the password manager, for that matter. The website or service provider has the public key stored, and a private local key is stored on the device. These keys are related but are not identical. The website or service provider sends a query to the authenticator, and the authenticator solves the query by using the private key. It's pretty compelling and secure, and the best way is that the website or whatever service you are using can get verification without ever needing access to your private key.
