As we heard earlier this summer, Microsoft’s venerable Xbox Live Gold service is going away, to be replaced with Xbox Game Pass Core and the company has now revealed the transition is coming… tomorrow! Xbox Game Pass Core will essentially be the same as Xbox Live Gold, but will also come with a select library of games – a smaller lineup than the one you get with a regular Game Pass subscription, but there’s still some worthwhile stuff on the list. Gears 5, Halo 5, Grounded, Psychonauts 2, Fallout 4, Vampire Survivors, and more. There’s also a nice emphasis on fun, evergreen multiplayer stuff like Among Us, Overcooked, and Unpacking, to name a few. You can check out the full list, below.
That’s 36 titles in total – more than the 25 Microsoft initially promised. And this list won’t be entirely static, as Microsoft promises they’ll update it two to three times per year. This library of games will replace the two or three monthly games Microsoft used to offer with Gold, which is okay, as those ceased to be particularly exciting many months ago.
Xbox Game Pass Core will set you back the same as XBL Gold did ($10 a month) and if you were already signed up for Gold, you’ll automatically become a Core member.
What do you think? Is the new Xbox Game Pass Core approach an improvement over Gold? Or would you prefer Microsoft didn’t mess with a working system?
