Microsoft has announced the second wave of titles for Xbox Game Pass in May 2024, and it includes an often overlooked Soulslike title from 2023. May is shaping up to be an impressive month for Game Pass subscribers, with the inclusion of acclaimed titles such as or alongside completely new releases like,, and, which join the service upon their launch.
As revealed in a post on Xbox Wire, 2023's Soulslike action RPG, will be joining Game Pass on May 30. In a year that was as great for gaming as 2023 was, many would be forgiven for overlooking upon its launch in October, as it was competing with other high-profile releases such as and, which launched that same month, 's expansion and, which launched in September, and the Game of the Year winner, which was released in August. Fortunately, despite a rocky launch, surpassed 1.2 million units worldwide by the end of November 2023 (via WCCF Tech).

(2023) served as both a sequel and a soft reboot to the 2014 game of the same name and acknowledged the canon ending to its predecessor while being accessible to newcomers. A huge reason for this is that narratively (2023) takes place 1000 years after (2014) and how the previous game's protagonist, Harkyn’s actions — which have become legends — have taken a toll on the world in that time as it has transformed from high fantasy to more of a grimdark fantasy setting.
Much like its predecessor, (2023)'s gameplay draws heavily from FromSoftware's Soulsbourne games, with challenging combat that can be rewarding once mastered. It also adds some fun new puzzle-based mechanics unique to its story and world that help to set it apart, making it both accessible for those who have yet to pick up a Soulslike title, while also familiar for long-running fans of the genre.
