World of Warcraft Classic Hardcore is full of stories of players meeting untimely ends, never to romp the hills of Azeroth again. However, one guild aiming to be the world-first clear of Naxxramas found out that sometimes a heroic sacrifice is needed to secure their victory.
MMO guild Frontier braved the trifecta of World of Warcraft Classic raids of Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, and now Naxxramas, aiming to be the first guild in the world to complete all three on the Hardcore servers. World of Warcraft Classic Hardcore, if you'll recall, is a special rules server that sees characters die permanently if they fall in battle, or through misadventure. To get characters leveled up and geared out to be raid-worthy is a feat unto itself, given just the sheer amount of times they would have found themselves cheating death.
However, Frontier pushed forward through the other raids, finishing them without a character loss — until the Naxxramas raid. However, the guild's luck ran out when, on the final boss of the Naxxramas raid, the guild leader Ahmp was taken out.
However, despite the fall of the guild leader in the final encounter, Frontier rallied and still took out the boss, completing the raid with the ghost of Ahmpy looking on in triumph. I mean, just thinking about playing on a hardcore server makes me anxious — I can't imagine how the players in this raid must have felt in the moment knowing a party wipe meant more than just starting the raid over.
