When World of Warcraft Cataclysm Classic’s Rage of the Firelands update arrived last month, it was only a matter of time before the iconic Firelands raid would be here as the expansion gets ever-closer the final chapter releasing sometime early next year.
For now, there’s plenty to do now that this penultimate update is here. This is truer now, since the raid is now unlocked, along with the questline for any Druid, Mage, Priest, Warlock, Evoker, or Shaman who wants to get their start on building the legendary staff, Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest.
Firelands is here for 10 or 25 players to take on, with seven bosses in Normal and Heroic. Blizzard has adjusted the Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest questline to be faster in both sizes, similarly to what they did in Wrath of the Lich King with the Shadowmourne questline.
With Ragnaros’ minions driven back into the Firelands by collective effort, Mount Hyjal–and the World Tree, Nordrassil–are still under threat there too. So now head into the Firelands to face those loyal servants of Ragnaros. Start with the massive spider Beth'tilac, The Red Widow, then magma giant Lord Rhyolith. Your tasks will then include taking down the dragon Alysrazor, Shannox the hunter, and, before you can get into Sulfuron Keep, Baleroc, The Gatekeeper.
Then, one more challenge, Majordomo Staghelm, Archdruid of the Flame. Finally, of course, you’ll all face Ragnaros himself and see if you can really stand the heat. For many, these are memorable battles, and the WoW Classic team is looking to deliver on the experience.
Normal and Heroic modes each feature two completely different encounters, with variation in the rewards. Ragnaros has a chance to drop Smoldering Egg of Millagazor on Normal. It's a guaranteed drop on Heroic. So, if you really want that mount, head in with a prepared group.
