During BlizzCon 2023, Blizzard announced three new expansions for World of Warcraft. Starting with the next expansion dubbed World of Warcraft: The War Within, the trilogy of expansions has been referred to as the start of The Worldsoul Saga.
The expansions following The War Within have been titled World of Warcraft: Midnight, and World of Warcraft: The Last Titan. Warcraft general manager John Hight has referred to the new trilogy of expansions as “one of the most ambitious creative endeavors ever attempted for World of Warcraft“.
The three expansions will feature standalone storylines that will ultimately feed into a larger story arc taking place over the course of the trilogy.
The first expansion, World of Warcraft: The War Within, will kick things off with the rise of an ancient civilization, with Alliance and Horde players being bombarded with visions of Light and Darkness. The expansion will feature the new continent of Khaz Algar off the western shores of Kalimdor.
There will also be a new playable Allied Race—the Earthen. The new Allied race calls Khaz Algar their home, and have their own unique civilization and culture.
On the gameplay side of things, the expansion will raise the level cap up to 80, and will bring with it a new form of progression dubbed Hero Talents, which allow players to model their characters after well-known archetypes from the Warcraft setting. Options for Hero Talents include Dark Ranger and Farseer, among others.
