While rumours about Square Enix working on a remaster for seminal tactical RPG Final Fantasy Tactics have been going around for quite some time, the game’s creator, Yasumi Matsuno, has taken to social media platform X to state that there are no current plans to remaster the game.
Responding to a question on X, Matsuno states that fans would have to ask Square Enix about the potential remaster, and that it’s all he can say in his position. For the sake of reference, Matsuno is one of the people credit with the Ivalice sub-series in Final Fantasy, with titles like Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy 12 being parts of the Ivalice setting.
Back in February, Bloomberg’s Jason Schrier stated that a remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics is “coming”. Square Enix itself hasn’t made any real announcement about the game, and the last we heard of any game set in Ivalice was Final Fantasy 14: Stormblood‘s Alliance Raid setting which featured characters from Final Fantasy Tactics.
Final Fantasy Tactics was originally released on the PlayStation One back in 1997 in Japan. The game has since been ported to PlayStation Portable as Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions in 2007, and eventually made its way on to iOS devices.
Currently, there are no plans for remastering.
Also, you have to convey your request to SQEX, not me.
Thank you for your understanding.
