The Pokemon Company hosted a Pokemon Presents over the weekend. A little strange to do it on a Sunday, especially when there was so much to reveal. News about pretty much all of its developing games including the next Pokemon coming to Unite and an update for Legends: Arceus. It saved the biggest news for last though, as is often the case with these sorts of presentations, by unveiling gen nine.
A whole new generation of Pokemon will arrive in the form of Scarlet & Violet, and the new games will be here before the end of 2022. You have to wonder what exactly the team at Game Freak is doing to churn out so many games in such a short space of time. Pokemon fans have already been digging into the little we have been shown of the new games and the region in which they take place hoping to figure out what they're all about.

Mainline Pokemon games tend to be inspired by a real-life part of the world, and Scarlet & Violet appear to be inspired by Spain. The sweeping shots we were shown during Sunday's Pokemon Presents had a distinct Mediterranean feel. Also, as highlighted in the comments replying to the Reddit post below, two of the three new stater Pokemon's names are inspired by the Spanish language.
The post may have also revealed why Pokemon's next colors will be Scarlet and Violet. If the new region is indeed inspired by Spain, then the country's current flag is off the table as Red and Yellow are already taken. However, Spain's old flag was yellow, and yes you guessed it, scarlet, and violet. That appears to be where the new games' names come from, and why the words violet and scarlet have yellow outlines in the first artwork revealed.
