The iPad Air lineup has been refreshed with a new model that's powered by the Apple M1 chip, the same processor inside the iPad Pro (2021). With both tablets having the same chipset, folks looking to get either might be wondering what the differences are, and which one is better for them. Apple's iPad Air line sits between the standard iPad and the iPad Pro, offering some premium features at an affordable price.
The first iPad Air was released in 2013 with a successor following in 2014. However, the iPad Air 3 didn't launch until 2019, resulting in an almost five-year gap between it and the 2nd-gen model. Apple returned to a 1-year update between models when it announced the iPad Air 4 in 2020. Now a successor has arrived roughly 18 months later. There doesn't seem to be a clear pattern with respect to Apple's release schedule for the iPad Air series, so it's impossible to say when the next-gen model will arrive.

Both iPads have a Type-C USB port and come in Wi-Fi and 5G variants. However, unlike the iPad Air which is available in five color options, the iPad Pro only comes in Space Gray and Silver. The iPad Air 5 and iPad Pro (2021) offer the same performance thanks to the M1 chip, but there are several key differences between them.
The iPad Air 5 is only available in one size and that's with a 10.9-inch IPS LCD
