Apple recently launched two new colors for the iPhone 13 line: green for the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, and Alpine Green for the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. The green iPhones come mid-cycle, reigniting interest in a six-month-old iPhone model with a fresh new look. Apple did this last year, too, bringing a purple iPhone 12 to market in April 2021.
The two greens are quite different. The green iPhone 13 and 13 mini are a deep, very glossy forest green that requires a lot of care—it's extremely reflective and really shows fingerprints. The Alpine Green iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max have a more matte look that's a bit better at resisting fingerprints.
The colors shift under different light. I'd say that the iPhone Pro is more consistent overall, while the iPhone 13 can go from a dull almost-black to a rich green that really draws you in.
The iPhone 12 and 11 both had green models too, but they were very light pastel greens. This year's Samsung Galaxy S22 lineup comes in a green that kinds of light looks blue. The iPhone 13 greens are much greener.
The greenest of all, though, is Apple's $59 Silicone Case in Eucalyptus, a very mellow, true green. The great thing about using a colored case is that you can easily change up your phone's look while simultaneously protecting it.
The history of multicolored phones is quite long. The pink Motorola Razr, released in the fall of 2005, made a year-old phone look and feel fresh again. In August 2006, the LG Chocolate became a best-seller at Verizon in black, green, pink, red, and white.
