The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is one of the most notable rivals to the Apple Watch series 7, which was announced last September to much criticism for not bringing any revolutionary new features that many users had been clamoring for. However, it remains Apple's best smartwatch to date and one of the best devices in its segment.

The news about the new sensor in Samsung's next smartwatch comes from South Korean publication ET News which claims the company will introduce the new function to help users detect symptoms of COVID-19 at home. According to the report, the company has devised a way to measure body temperature accurately through a smartwatch, and that the new technology will make it to the upcoming Galaxy Watch models, slated to be released this August. The report further states that, in addition to the Galaxy Watch 5, the next-gen Galaxy Buds could come with a similar temperature-tracking feature. According to the report, Samsung will use infrared wavelengths to detect body temperature with its wireless earbuds. In fact, the company is already said to be working with a prototype Galaxy Buds design that incorporates the new sensor.
