It has been confirmed Hogwarts Legacy will not use microtransactions, making all content in the game available for the base price. Microtransactions have become increasingly more prevalent in open-world RPG games, with gear, weapons, and cosmetics locked behind paywalls. This can be discouraging for those who can't afford premium in-game currency, or for players who prefer to earn high-tier items as gameplay rewards.
New information has been revealed for Hogwarts Legacy after a long stretch of silence from developers. Originally announced in the fall of 2020, Hogwarts Legacy is planned for release during the holiday season in 2022, with recent gameplay footage shown during a State of Play Livestream specifically for Hogwarts Legacy. Players will be able to create a unique character, get sorted into an iconic Harry Potter house, and explore the grounds of Hogwarts in a late 19th-century setting. Thankfully, it also appears players won't need to worry about paying additional fees for content after purchasing the base game.

The confirmation of a premium currency-free gameplay experience means players will be able to complete tasks with elements already in the game, and that progression will likely be tied to skill levels and items, instead of special coins.
