Gamora will return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but why is she with the Ravagers instead of the Guardians? Every Marvel reveal from Comic-Con 2022 throws a surprising twist into a different MCU project. In the case of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, SDCC confirms that Gamora will not just return, but is also now part of the interstellar crime syndicate known as the Ravagers.
Gamora died when Thanos sacrificed her on Vormir for the Soul Stone, which means that the original Gamora introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy is either dead or still trapped in the Infinity Stone. Following the Time Heist in Avengers: Endgame, 2014 Gamora travels forward in time to help the heroes fight Thanos. Though 2014 Gamora had no memories of Peter Quill or the Guardians, a mind link between Nebula's past and present selves allowed Gamora to learn about everything that transpired between her and the other Guardians. In the aftermath of Thanos' defeat, Gamora disappeared — until the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer, which also explains why Gamora was not in Thor 4. Apparently, Gamora ended up with the Ravagers, and though it's unclear how exactly this happened, it's not really surprising.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 turning 2014 Gamora into a Ravager actually makes a lot of sense due to the character's background. Gamora was raised by Thanos as part of a genocidal cabal of elite warriors. Though the Ravagers are criminals, they abide by a moral code that includes not dealing in child trafficking or killing without cause.
