Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn says that the hidden Easter egg in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie could spoil Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After making a brief appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder and uniting for a Disney+ Christmas special this December, the Guardians will return to the big screen in 2023 with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn, who directed both Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, returns to helm the third installment of his MCU trilogy. New additions outside of the main cast include Nico Santos, Maria Bakalova, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Will Poulter.
As with any Marvel project, the Guardians movies are full of Easter eggs, most of which have been uncovered by viewers. However, Gunn himself hinted online several years ago that there is one big Easter egg from the first Guardians of the Galaxy that is yet to be discovered. This has, of course, led to further deep dives into the film and its potential Easter eggs, and the director has been fielding guesses on Twitter — until now.

In a new tweet, Gunn addresses the whole undiscovered Guardians of the Galaxy Easter egg situation. According to him, if someone guessed “the whole thing,” it could potentially spoil some of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 story. As a result, the director announces that he neither confirm nor deny fan theories on the undiscovered Easter egg until the new movie is released, when he no longer has to worry about spoilers affecting the audience's experience.
