Flying insects called Gnats are abundant creatures in that you can find and kill for food and essential crafting materials. These passive animals may not be trying to harm you, but you need every resource you can get to survive as a shrunk-down character in the backyard wilderness. Thankfully, there are ways to trick elusive Gnats into approaching you for an easy hunt.
Unlike other enemies like Antlions in , Gnats are flying creatures that often move in erratic and unpredictable patterns around the map. This annoying movement can make Gnats difficult to track down and hit with ranged weapons from your arsenal. Gnats can also be distracting creatures who could accidentally nudge into your character, knocking them off a ledge or throwing them off in a different fight.
Gnats can be found buzzing around in the skies of the Central Grasslands, Flooded Zone, and Oak Hill biomes in the air. Swarms of these bugs usually gather around light sources, like porch lights or torches that you use during the night. Meaty Gnats found near the Trash Heap will only deal damage because they emit a gaseous aura, similar to large rotten food, that actively hurts your character over time.
Meaty Gnats can be approached when you wear a Gas Mask or drink some Gastro Goo to become temporarily immune to the gaseous aura of this Gnat variant.
Due to how hard Gnats are to shoot out of the air, the best strategy for killing them is to use Spoiled Meat Slurry to lure them toward the ground. Putting Spoiled Meat into a Grinder will make this Slurry, which you can place onto an exposed spot
