While not much is known about the upcoming , the director of the film did recently discuss the soundtrack of the film, helmed by Nine Inch Nails, and just what fans can expect from it.
Speaking to Empire Magazine, director Joachim Rønning briefly touched on the soundtrack, which he says is going to be “grittier” and “a little bit more industrial” than previous films due to Ares’ focus on a new world.
“With Nine Inch Nails making the music, this installment will be a little grittier, a little bit more industrial,” Rønning said. “It’s been important for me to contrast The Grid and the real world. In that sense, Nine Inch Nails lends itself perfectly into this new Tron world that we are creating.”
Prior to Nine Inch Nails’ inclusion, the Tron soundtracks were composed by Wendy Carlos, who did the original, and the iconic duo Daft Punk, who composed the soundtrack to Tron: Legacy, both of which have been critically acclaimed.
Reznor and Atticus Ross — who will also be composing the album — have previously provided the scores for movies such as 2010’s The Social Network, 2014’s Gone Girl, 2023’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, 2024’s Challengers, and more.
The upcoming movie will star Jared Leto and Jeff Bridges (the latter of whom is reprising his role as Kevin Flynn from Tron and Tron: Legacy). Tron: Ares will also star Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Sarah Desjardins.
Tron: Ares will be the third official feature film in Disney’s Tron franchise following 1982’s Tron and 2010’s Tron: Legacy. The film is directed by Joachim Rønning, who previously made 2019’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and 2024’s Young Woman and the Sea. He also co-directed 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales with Espen Sandberg.
Tron: Ares will be released in United States theaters and IMAX on October 10, 2025, from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
