Disney has shared a new video for its upcoming musical prequel to the 2019 remake of The Lion King. It is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 20, 2024.
“The film explores the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands. Rafiki relays the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick,” reads the official synopsis. “Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.”

The video features Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins and Grammy winner Lin-Manuel Miranda talking about Miranda’s original songs for Mufasa: The Lion King, including “I Always Wanted A Brother” and “Milele.” According to the Hamilton star, “Milele” was the most difficult song he had to write for the movie. The songs only and deluxe versions of the original picture soundtrack will officially be available on December 13.
