It can be a hassle to try and organize all the opened tabs across your Chrome browser. So in some good news, it looks like Google is preparing a new feature that can neatly organize the tabs for you.
The Twitter user @Leopeva64 spotted the new “Organize Tabs” function being tested in a beta “Canary” build for Chrome browser. Although the function isn’t fully working at the moment, it’s apparently designed to automatically sort your opened tabs into groups.
@Leopeva64 has uploaded a GIF of the feature in action. Once you click the Organize Tabs button, the browser will begin organizing them through what appears to be an AI-assisted process. It then seems like you can name each group the tabs have been sorted to.
The system takes advantage of the existing “tab groups” feature that Google introduced to Chrome back in 2020. To reduce the clutter from too many opened tabs, you can manually sort each tab into its own group by right-clicking the specific tab. Each group can then be opened or collapsed, freeing up space across your browser.
The only problem is that manually organizing your tabs into groups can still be a chore. But now it seems Google is working on a way to automate the sorting process. That said, it remains unclear how the automation works, and if it’s smart enough to organize the tabs into a format that won’t annoy users.
So far, Google has offered no clear timeline on when the Organize Tabs feature will arrive. In the meantime, Microsoft has also been spotted testing a similar feature for the Edge browser.
